History

The Butterfly Chair was designed in Buenos Aires by designers Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan, and Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, hence its other monniker, the B.K.F. chair. The design was then brought to the United States by architect Edgar Kaufmann Jr. who ordered two pieces for himself: one for Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater House (which he commissioned) and one to remain in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

Hans Knoll, founder of Knoll Associates, one of the most famous furniture designers and manufacturers in history, recognized the attractive design of the Butterfly Chair as one that would see explosive commercial success and added the chair to the Knoll Collection in 1947.

Ever since, the Butterfly Chair design has been one of the most replicated and reproduced chairs in furniture, however, few have been able to replicate its quality and craftsmanship. Wanderlust Gallerie is proud to participate in the rich and modern tradition of artisan furniture design and offer a premium-quality Colonade Cognac Butterfly Chair as a part of its collection.
